As tributes poured in for the five people who perished on board, authorities turned their attention to the reason why a submersible carrying people to the Titanic’s wreck imploded deep in the North Atlantic.
A tragic five-day saga that included an urgent 24-hour search for the Titan came to an end on Thursday with the announcement that no one survived.
Rear Adm. John Mauger of the First Coast Guard District stated that the investigation into what happened was already underway and would continue in the Titanic area, where submersible debris was discovered.
I am aware that there are numerous inquiries regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident, including when, why, and how it occurred. Those are questions we will gather as much data as possible at this point,” Mauger said, it was a “perplexing case” that occurred in a remote piece of the sea and affected individuals from a few distinct nations to add that it.
